Stronger Together12 November, 2016
On my mind today is community. Reach out to the people around you; do not wait to see if they reach out to you. Open doors and build bridges. Make connections in other groups who are also hurting right now; stand up for them and help them to stand up for you.
Educate yourself. In A Christmas Carol, Dickens drew our attention to the twin children Ignorance and Want. Of the boy, Ignorance, Dickens wrote: “Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom unless the writing be erased.” We must educate ourselves. We must learn about our neighbours, their lives, their fears, and their joys so that we do not become Ignorance, so we do not produce more Want, and so we can avert Doom.
We are and, always have been, stronger together. Please, create community, help us heal, and keep us safe.
